Looking for a way to fairly call on students using a technique similiar to the "popsicle sticks in a jar" that some teachers use?

Find the Random image generator in the Lesson Activity Toolkit.
It can be accessed under Tools.

Drag the template onto the page.

Drag and drop each of your student's digital picture onto the tool. The pictures must small resolution - large resolution pictures do not work.

To use this tool, all you need to do is touch the it and a picture will be selected randomly.

If you prefer names instead of images select the random text generator tool instead.

Ten Ways to Use the SMART Board in Your Classroom

1. Access websites, add notes and save your pages in the SMART notebook.

2. View Power Point slide shows interactively, take notes on the slides and save them in the SMART Notebook.

3. Use a word processor and have students do daily language on the Smart Board using editing and proofreading marks. Also use the highlighter tool on the floating toolbar to highlight nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.

Spelling City

Spelling City is a new and innovative interactive educational site that can help children of all ages improve their spelling skills and expand their vocabulary.

The question pages can be changed to align with your math operation.
Each ball is linked to a page in the Notebook file.

Download the file. Open the file.

The best page view is 100%.

Click a ball, a problem appears. Student can write answer on board and click star to check their answer. A click on the answer ball takes you back to the main Koosh ball page.

Cleaning the SMART Board

SMART Boards should not be used with regular white board pens at all. If one is inadvertently used, use the white board cleaner Expo to remove the marks.

Spray the cleaner on a clean soft cloth (never spray the board directly) and use the Expo eraser to clean.

If your board should become dirty, please use the Expo white board cleaner or Windex to clean your board.

Repeated use of Expo will leave a film on the board that will interfere with its functionality.

Sending text from other applications directly into a Notebook file

Two Ways


#1 - Send text from another application directly into a Notebook file. In the other application, select File >Print, and then select SMART Notebook Print Capture as your printer. After you print the document, each page of text appears as an object on its own Notebook page, with the original formatting preserved. You can enlarge, move and rotate text, but text cannot be edited.



#2 - Copy and paste text into notebook from a word processer. Your text can be edited. It will appear in a text box. You can change the font, text, color and size.

Powerpoint Presentations

When presenting a powerpoint presentation on your Smart Board try these navigation tips.

Navigate in your PowerPoint slide show by using the arrow buttons on the toolbar or by touching twice on the screen.

To advance one slide, make your second press to the right of the first.

To go back one slide, make the second press to the left of the first.

Jigsaw Planet

This is a fun site!

Jigsaw Planet allows you to create your own online jigsaw puzzle for free just by simply uploading a photo.

Click on advanced settings to set the size of the pieces and the difficulty level.

This site is easy to use and engaging. The puzzle is a unique activity to use with your Smart Board.

Smart Classroom is the name of the site in YouTube that hosts collection of videos created by teachers using Smart Boards and the SMART staff.

Interactive Notebook Lessons

Did you know many sites including SMART Tech has Notebook lessons already developed posted online? These are great lessons for adding interactivity in student use of the SMART Board. The files are easy to open and ready for you to use as they are.

If you like the Notebook lesson you can download and save the file, make changes specific to your curriculum, and use with Notebook lesson with your class. Be sure to view it before saving it yo your computer.

You will find everything from Pythagorean Theorem, animal/human cells, biomes, ancient history, to a basic use of parts of speech.

Presenting with SMART Tools

The SMART Board software bundle comprises Notebook whiteboarding software and SMART Board Tools.

The SMART Board tools enrich presentations and add interactivity to your learning environment.

How to access the Tools:

Press the SMART Board icon in the Windows Notification Area at the bottom right of your screen. The SMART Board Tools menu will appear.

If the SMART Board icon is not visible, select Start > Programs >SMART Board Software > SMART Board Tools. The SMART Board icon will appear in the bottom right of your screen.

Use the Magnifier tool to make small screen areas easier to see.

Use the Screen Shade to cover your screen until you’re ready to reveal it to your audience. Then drag it from any side.

Use the Spotlight to focus the audience’s attention on a particular area of your screen.

Use the Pointer Tool from the Floating Tools to point out important areas of your screen.

This is a program that downloads right into Smart Notebook that gives you lots of options for creating interactive Notebook pages - word matching, category sorting, multiple choice, word guess (hangman), and note reveal (for revealing one step at a time).

Portaportal - Access Your Favorites From Any Computer!

Looking for a place to keep links to all your favorite SMART Board websites?

If so, check out www.portaportal.com. Portaportal is a free bookmarking utility. It acts like your favorites or bookmarks menu. It will give you a place to keep your favorite websites and you will be able to access it from any computer with web access.

To use Portaportal, create your own username and password first. Then, create categories (as many as you like) and then add bookmarks under categories (again, as many as you like).

Portaportal provides a system of collecting and categorizing websites that are useful in your teaching practice.

It enables you to guide your students directly to a site that has been reviewed and approved by you beforehand.
